Iowa City man charged after head butting girlfriend

An Iowa City man has been accused of head-butting his girlfriend.

Thom Pringle, 31, was charged Nov. 30 with domestic-abuse assault impeding air/blood causing bodily injury.

According to an Iowa City police complaint, officers were called after receiving a report of a male head-butting a female. Upon arrival, officials met with Pringle, who told officers nothing had happened. He had a red mark and minor swelling on his forehead, as well as a bleeding cut on his hand.

Later, he admitted when he arrived home, the woman had bit his hand. The woman stated she and Pringle got into an argument, and Pringle became out of control.

Pringle head-butted the woman and put his arm around her neck from behind, she reportedly said. The woman stated Pringle’s forearm was pulled against her neck, causing her to barely be able to breathe.

The woman bit Pringle’s hand in order to get him off of her, so she could breathe. She had a red mark and minor swelling under her right eye.

The two are in an intimate relationship and live together.

Domestic-abuse assault impeding air/blood causing bodily injury is a Class-D felony.
