Three local men charged with bootlegging

Three Iowa man have been accused of bootlegging large amounts of alcohol.

Kang Lee, 23, Iowa City, Pengfei Sun, 23, Coralville, and Han Junhyuk, 22, Mount Ayr, Iowa, were charged Sunday with bootlegging.

According to an Iowa City police complaint, officers conducted a bar check at Uncle Sun, 100 S. Linn Street. When officers attempted to enter the bar, the doorman blocked the entrance.

Officers noticed a money box and a man holding wrist bands, as well as open alcohol containers just inside the front door.

During a search of the bar, officers found numerous open alcohol bottles, red solo cups, toppers to liquor bottles, and mixers.

Officers spoke with the doorman, and he said he was checking IDs to determine which wrist band the party attendees would receive.

The men originally told officers they were not supplying alcohol, but changed their statements after officers entered.

Bootlegging is a serious misdemeanor.
