Iowa City man charged after driving while intoxicated

An Iowa City man has been accused of driving while intoxicated.

Timothy O’Leary, 39, was charged Oct. 26 with third-offense OWI.

According to a Johnson County Sheriff’s Office complaint, the State Patrol had received a report of a drunk driver traveling to West Branch in a red truck missing the tailgate.

Officers located a vehicle fitting that description and reportedly found O’Leary behind the wheel with bloodshot eyes, slurred speech, poor balance, and the smell of ingested alcohol.

He allegedly admitted to drinking and driving but refused all sobriety tests. Under Miranda, he stated he had “enough” to drink.

O’Leary has had six OWI convictions since 1994.

Third-offense OWI is a Class-D felony.
