Regents approve relocation of clinic

The state Board of Regents approved the proposed relocation of the University of Iowa Chronic Pain Clinic and Breast Imaging Center on Thursday.

Both clinics would be relocated to the fourth floor of the UIHC Pomerantz Family Pavilion.

The Chronic Pain Clinic is located on level five of the Pappajohn Pavilion, and the Breast Imaging Center is located on level three of the Pappajohn Pavilion.

The Chronic Pain Clinic will be relocated to acquire more space for inpatient operating rooms. The new operating rooms would be constructed adjacent to the Main Operation Room Suite currently in the Colloton Pavilion.

The Breast Imaging Center will be relocated to make space for new technologies and more workspace. It will also be closer to the Woman’s Health Center.

The relocation of the Breast Imaging Center clears space for a connecting walkway to the new Children’s Hospital.

The two centers will operate separately, though they will share several support staff areas.

The estimated cost of the project is $4.3 million; it will be funded by the University Hospitals Building Use Funds.
