Iowa City man charged after changing amount of check

An Iowa City man has been accused of changing the amount of a check.

Layton McDonald, 50, was charged Sept. 26 with forgery.

According to an Iowa City police complaint, McDonald knowingly altered the amount of a check that was intended for $20 and changed it to $120. 

McDonald was shown a copy of the check and admitted to taking the check to Hills Bank and confirmed it was his signature on the back. 

Officials also confirmed the fraudulent transaction with Hills Bank.

Forgery is a Class-D felony.
