IC man charged after allegedly charging approximately $700 to stolen credit card

An Iowa City man has been accused of charging almost $700 in stolen credit-card fees.

Anthony Patterson, 21, was charged Sept. 22 with unauthorized use of a credit card not exceeding $1,000.

According to an Iowa City police complaint, officers were dispatched to Hotel Vetro, 201 S. Linn St., after receiving a fraud report.

The victim’s credit card had reportedly been stolen over the weekend.

Several unauthorized charges were reported at the hotel. Hotel staff identified Patterson as the person who used the credit card.

Staff members indicated they had video of Patterson using the card. While officials were interviewing the victim, Patterson walked into the hotel.

Patterson reportedly admitted to using the credit card to check in to the hotel the night before. The victim stated Patterson did not have permission to use the card.

Upon his arrest, officials found two key cards in his pocket.

Unauthorized use of a credit card not exceeding $1,000 is an aggravated misdemeanor.
