Local man charged after allegedly stealing headphones from Kmart

A local man has been charged after allegedly stealing a pair of headphones from Kmart.

Jimmy Nettles, 50, address unknown, was charged Sunday with first-offense aggravated theft.

According to an Iowa City police complaint, officers were dispatched to Kmart, 901 Hollywood Blvd., after receiving a report of a male shoplifter causing trouble with loss-prevention services.

When officials arrived to the scene, Nettles was allegedly on the ground in front of the store, physically detained by loss prevention.

The loss-prevention personnel stated Nettles allegedly concealed a set of JVC headphones in his front right pants pocket and made no attempt to pay for them when leaving.

When confronted by loss prevention, Nettles refused to cooperate and physically pulled away from the personnel.

The earphones were valued at $9.99.

First-offense aggravated theft is an aggravated misdemeanor.
