Iowa City man charged after allegedly stealing cable TV services from Mediacom

An Iowa City man has been accused of stealing cable-TV services from Mediacom.

Michael O’Donnal, 51, was charged between March and September with third-degree theft.

According to an Iowa City police complaint, Mediacom Security reported theft of cable-TV services between March 23 and Sept. 10.

Mediacom Security said warning notices were left at the residence and ignored.

The cable box and equipment was allegedly damaged and re-hooked.

When O’Donnal was interviewed, he initially denied using the cable services and damaging the equipment. He stated the trailer was in his name, he had lived there for three years, and his female roommate did not need to comment.

O’Donnal opted to turn himself in. He said he recalled receiving a warning notice “a while back” and complained about the cable box being in his yard.

Third-degree theft is an aggravated misdemeanor.
