Man charged after stealing torque converters

A West Branch man has been charged after allegedly stealing from Fountain Transmission Specialist Inc.

Nicholas Nash, 32, was charged on July 10 with second-degree theft.

According to a complaint, Nash was caught on video taking 30 scrapped torque converters valued at $1,200. Nash allegedly spoke with Johnson County deputies on March 13 and offered to pay for the missing items. He reportedly said his attorney told him it was OK to take things from dumpsters.

Second-degree theft is a Class-D felony.
