Man charged after assaulting one-legged person

A North Liberty man has been charged after allegedly assaulting a one-legged man.

Jerald Navarre, 36, was charged on Thursday with assault causing bodily injury.

According to a police complaint, Navarre allegedly pushed a one-legged man out of his wheeled mobility device. The man fell into the street and scraped his left elbow and the stump of his missing right leg. Witnesses said Navarre then grabbed the victim’s face and was disrespectful toward him and witnesses. He yelled and screamed at them while being placed under arrest, the complaint said.

Assault causing bodily injury is a serious misdemeanor.
