Iowa City man charged with possessing contraband

An Iowa City man has been charged after allegedly attempting to smuggle a razor blade into the Johnson County jail.

Xzavier Mallard, 22, was charged Wednesday with possessing contraband.

According to an Iowa City police complaint, Mallard was taken into custody for a probation violation and transported to the jail. After he told Iowa City police officials and Johnson County Sheriff’s deputies that he didn’t have anything sharp or illegal on his person, deputies located an Exacto razor blade in his hair during a search at the jail, according to the complaint.

Possessing contraband is a Class-C felony.
