Man accused of purchasing several items with forged checks

A local man has been accused of using forged checks to purchase $460 worth of merchandise from Target.

Undre McClure, 20, was charged April 1 with forgery and fourth-degree theft, Jan. 11 with first-degree theft, and Jan. 29 with second-degree theft.

According to an Iowa City police complaint, McClure used checks belonging to another person to purchase $460 worth of merchandise from Target at the Coral Ridge Mall.

McClure then allegedly asked some else to return the illegally obtained property to Target for cash.

The victim had to go through a bank-fraud process to have his money replaced, the complaint said. The bank was able to do a charge-back to Target as well.

According to a different Iowa City police complaint, McClure also was involved in a separate incident in which officials located a stolen 2005 Red Dodge Dakota Quad cab traveling on Douglas Street.

As officials pulled behind the vehicle, McClure and another passenger jumped out of the vehicle while it was still rolling, the complaint said. McClure and the passenger fled in separate directions. The vehicle continued down the street and crashed into a tree.

According to the complaint, officers began tracking McClure and fled behind a row of houses. Officers in the area allegedly observed McClure coming out from behind a house and go inside another.

Officers surround the house and made contact with the residents and with McClure. McClure admitted to know the vehicle was stolen and to being in it, the complaint said. The vehicle’s value is more than $10,000.

According to a separate Iowa City police complaint, McClure allegedly sold several items to University Camera, including a Cannon Camera 7D body, a Cannon 35-mm lens, a Cannon 24-mm lens, a Cannon 85mm, a Cannon batter grip, and a Cannon camera bag.
