Suspicious package near Kinnick found to be harmless

A Johnson County Metro Bomb Squad vehicle was called to Kinnick Stadium Monday afternoon after a report of a suspicious package.

Chuck Green, the assistant vice president for the UI police, said there was no danger to the public.

UI officials later reported that the package reported as suspicious contained a box of tea, some ginger, and a greeting card.

According to a UI news release, UI police received a call around 9:45 a.m. on Monday regarding a package initially found at the UI Hospitals and Clinics. The package was then moved outside by a member of the hospital security staff to west of Hospital Ramp 3, the release said. The package was addressed from someone in India to a UI Health Care staff member.

The Johnson County Metro Bomb Squad X-rayed the package and determined there was no threat.
