The Iowa City City Council passed a resolution awarding the contract for a levee construction on Tuesday.

Bids for the construction of the West Side Levee Project, approved by the City Council on March 5, were received from eight construction companies. The resolution, passed by a 7-0 vote, awards the contract to Iowa Bridge & Culvert LC of Washington, Iowa.

Iowa Bridge & Culvert had a $4.5 million bid, more than $1 million lower than the city engineer’s estimate of $5.5 million.

The project is to be funded with Community Development Block Grants.
