Women accused after repeatedly punching victim

Two women have been accused of punching another woman in the head at least 40 times.

Yadira Gallegos, 33, and Nuvia Gallegos, 28, were charged March 18 with first-degree burglary and assault causing bodily injury.

Yadira Gallegos was reportedly involved in a previous altercation with the woman at Brothers Bar & Grill. Upon seeing the woman, Yadira Gallegos and Nuvia Gallegos pulled their vehicle behind the woman’s vehicle, trapping her in a parking space, the Iowa City police complaint said.

While Nuvia Gallegos allegedly opened the back driver’s side door, Yadira Gallegos opened the back passenger side door, and both reportedly started punching the woman in the head, the complaint said.

The complaint said that according to a witness, the woman was hit 40 to 50 times in the head. She reportedly  suffered severe abrasions to her face and head. She was treated in a hospital for a concussion and released.

First-degree burglary is a Class-B felony. Assault causing bodily injury is a serious misdemeanor.
