Coralville man charged with third-offense OWI

A Coralville man has been accused of drinking alcohol and driving under the influence.

Samuel King Jr., 43, was charged March 29 with third-offense OWI and driving while barred.

Iowa City police officials stopped King after he traveled south on Crescent Street and then turned into a driveway on Euclid Street. King exited the vehicle and reportedly smelled strongly of alcohol, the police complaint said.

King allegedly admitted to drinking and submitted to a sobriety test. King reportedly failed the test and provided a breath sample of approximately .08. King was then taken to the police station and provided another breath sample of about .095, the complaint said.

Third-offense OWI is a Class-D felony. Driving while barred is an aggravated misdemeanor.
