Local man arrested after allegedly choking wife

A local man was arrested after choking his wife to near unconsciousness.

Malik Alexander, 27, was accused Jan. 30 with domestic abuse.

Iowa City police officers responded to a call from a female exclaiming her husband had choked her. The victim and Alexander were arguing, and it elevated when Alexander called his daughter a “bitch,” the police complaint said.

Alexander followed the victim to the bathroom where he started choking her against the doorframe with one hand. Alexander choked his victim until her breath was impeding and her eyes started rolling back, and then pushed her to the ground. The victim struggled to get away, and resulted in Alexander biting her several times on her hands. As the victim lost control of her bladder and vomited on the floor, Alexander locked himself in a bedroom and escaped out a window.

Domestic abuse is a class-D felony.
