KRUI Iowa City hosts back-to-school show

With students back from winter break and spring classes underway, what’s the only thing missing from that list of school essentials?

A Back-To-School Bash.

KRUI radio, the University of Iowa’s student-run radio station, will host the first-ever KRUI Back-to-School Bash this weekend.

Immerse yourself in the confines of Gabe’s musically inclined venue at 8 p.m. Friday for the chance to experience rock, funk, hip-hop, and jazzy tunes. Tickets are $5 available at Gabe’s or online.

“We have pretty diverse mixture of bands from the local area who will perform all in one place,” said Vanessa Ruiz, the KRUI marketing director. “It is a great event to go to, because you can support the local scene of bands emerging around Iowa City.”

Cedar-Rapids based surf-rock band the Surf Zombies will start of the festivities at 8 p.m. Country-punk band — with elements of folk and straight-up rock — Porch Builder will perform at 9:20.

Alternative rock band the Treats will perform at 10:40. And last, the Uniphonics will wrap up the show with its blend of jazzy tunes along with funky, hip-hop components.
