Man accused of stealing more than $1,000 worth of property

A local man has been accused of stealing over $1,000 in various properties.

Damien Gilchrist, 18, 452 W. Benton St., was charged Nov. 9 with third-degree criminal mischief, second-degree burglary, and second-degree theft.

According to an Iowa City police complaint, Gilchrist and a codefendant entered a Sout Dodge Street residence without justification. Gilchrist admitted to participation in the burglary, and the codefendant was allegedly found in possession of the stolen property.

The total value of the property taken was more than $1,000, the release said.
