Man charged in apartment burglary

A local man was charged Oct. 9 after allegedly breaking into an Iowa City home.

According to an Iowa City police complaint, Devon Kent, 21, address unknown, allegedly cut a screen on a window at 2025 Kountry Lane Apt. 101C and entered the apartment Sept. 25. The complaint said Kent had received a trespass warning Sept. 23 at the same address. Kent was also seen on the property earlier on Sept. 25 by a property-management employee, the complaint said.

Kent reportedly took some of his own property from the residence but also allegedly took clothing and food belonging to the current resident. Kent allegedly admitted to police that he had broken into the apartment and stolen these items.

The complaint said the current resident also found his computer missing after the burglary, but Kent denied stealing the computer.

Damage to the apartment window totaled $50, according to the complaint.

Kent is charged with third-degree burglary, a Class-D felony.
