Williams will use intoxication as a part of her defense

A Coralville woman accused of first-degree murder will use intoxication as part of her defense, according to online court documents.

Lillie Williams is accused of the Class-A felony charge in connection with the death of a 14-year-old boy during a house fire in November 2011. The court also ruled last week that a 6-year-old boy is competent to testify against Williams at trial.

Williams’ defense will focus on diminished responsibility based on her intoxicated state during the alleged intentionally set fire. She has also requested a change of venue, which the court has taken under advisement.

William’s final pretrial hearing will be 9 a.m. Oct. 19, and trial remains scheduled for 9 a.m. Oct. 23.
