North Liberty man charged with pot possession

A North Liberty man was accused of having possession of marijuana.

Michael Vogel, 18, North Liberty, was charged Tuesday with possession of a controlled substance.

According to a Johnson County Sheriff’s Office complaint Vogel was sitting in the front passenger seat of a vehicle that was pulled over for having expired license plates. When the driver rolled down the window the officer could smell raw marijuana.

While searching the car the officer found a hidden compartment in the center console containing a clear plastic baggy with a green, leafy substance, the complaint said.

The complaint said Vogel admitted it was his and the substance was marijuana.

Possession of a controlled substance is considered a serious misdemeanor.
