Man allegedly caught attempting to sell cocaine

A local man has been accused of attempting to sell crack cocaine.

Christopher Burnett, 23, address unknown, was charged June 6 with a controlled-substance violation and distribution without a drug tax stamp.

According to an Iowa City police complaint, officers spoke with Burnett and two other people while they were hanging around a stairwell on Arthur Street.

Officers reportedly located seven pieces of crack cocaine on the ground totaling 3.9 grams, the complaint said.

The complaint said the cocaine was individually packaged for sale and Burnett was in possession of around $197 in small bills.

A controlled-substance violation and possession without a tax stamp are both Class-D felonies.
