Man allegedly breaks into apartment to retrieve his children

An Iowa City man has been accused of breaking into a residence in an attempt to retrieve his children.

Malcolm Johnson, 35, 3042 Muscatine Ave., Apt. 15, was charged June 15 with second-degree burglary.

According to an Iowa City police complaint, Johnson and his cousin went to the location looking for a male and to retrieve his children. Johnson and his cousin entered the apartment, damaging the screen door in the process.

The victim attempted to stop Johnson from entering and injured her neck as a result. The victim and Johnson share two children, the complaint said.

The complaint said Johnson told officers he went to the victim’s house unannounced and to locate a man who had been staying there.

Second-degree burglary is a Class-C felony.
