The Iowa City City Council approved the city’s filing of an application with the Iowa Department of Transportation for financial assistance.

The Metropolitan Planning Organization of Johnson County will now file an application with the department for state transit assistance and federal transit administration funding for fiscal 2013.

Iowa City Transit will receive roughly $397,000 in state transit assistance and roughly $1.4 million in federal transit administration funding.

Councilors approved the resolution on a 7-0 vote.
