Local man charged with third OWI

A local man has been charged with third-offense OWI.

According to an Iowa City police complaint, Andres Medina, 40, 1205 Laura Drive Lot 19, was charged Monday.

Police officials reportedly responded to the Baculis trailer park for a domestic call, and when they arrived, the victim stated Medina left in a car while intoxicated. The report said officers found the car with the lights and engine off near the 2300 block of South Riverside Drive.

Medina reportedly admitted to driving from the victim’s trailer to where police officials found him and said he was trying to get away from the victim to give her some space.

According to the report, Medina had a strong odor of ingested alcohol, watery and bloodshot eyes, and poor balance.

Third-offense OWI is a Class-D felony and is punishable of up to five years in jail and a maximum fine of $9,375.
