Hope House resident charged after reportedly being caught with drugs

A Coralville man was charged Wednesday with possession of a controlled substance and possession of contraband in a correctional facility after he allegedly tried to conceal prescription drugs during a search of his person.

According to a complaint by the Department of Correctional Services, Dominick Marcott, 37, was subject to a pat-down search upon his return to Hope House from a furlough. The complaint said residential officers at Hope House saw Marcott allegedly attempting to conceal items in his hand during the search.

Marcott then allegedly dropped a small plastic bag by his foot. The complaint said the bag contained twelve small Methylphenidate pills — a generic version of Ritalin.

Marcott allegedly admitted the pills were his, and he did not have a current prescription for them.

Possession of a Schedule-II controlled substance is a Class-C felony. Possession of contraband in a correctional facility is a Class-D felony.
