Coralville man charged with false imprisonment

Police charged a Coralville man after he allegedly assaulted a woman at her residence.

Martel Horton, 25, 954 Boston Way No. 11, was charged Nov. 16 with false imprisonment, domestic abuse assault with intent, and third-and-subsequent domestic abuse assault.

According to a complaint by Coralville police, Horton was involved in a domestic argument with a woman when he allegedly grabbed her around the neck and attempted to strangle her. The complaint said Horton then attempted to punch the victim several times.

The assault continued with Horton allegedly holding a bed sheet or blanket over the victim’s head while yelling such statements as "I’ll kill you," according to the complaint. When the victim attempted to leave, Horton allegedly grabbed her by the hair, preventing her from escaping.

The complaint said Horton told the victim he would harm her if she called the police. The victim had bruises and abrasions on her neck and face consistent with the story, according to the complaint.
