IC council to discuss Occupy’s permit appeal

Iowa City City Council will hold a public hearing today regarding an appeal to the current permit sent by Occupy protesters.

The appeal states the permit issued to the protesters Oct. 26 differs significantly from the proposed permit Occupy demonstrators applied for Oct. 24.

The five objections made by protesters about the second permit were based on closing hours of the park, forbidding permanent structures on the green, tent sizes and capacity, tent location, and permit renewal.

The permit currently states occupy protests are not allowed on the North and West quadrants of the park, no tents larger than four to six occupants are allowed, and the permit will last for four months. Occupants may renew the permit after the initial four months.
