An Iowa City man was charged with habitual public intoxication and disorderly conduct on Oct. 28 after he allegedly displayed a knife during a verbal altercation on the Pedestrian Mall.

Iowa City police responded to reports of a dispute between two males on the Ped Mall who reportedly have had a long ongoing dispute.

According to a complaint by Iowa City police, Jerald Navarre, 35, was intoxicated and yelling at another man when he allegedly took out a knife.

The report said Navarre did not threaten the victim with the knife, and the argument ended when Navarre left the scene before officers arrived.

According to the complaint, Navarre was later found under the bridge in the 500 block of South Gilbert Street. He reportedly had red, watery bloodshot eyes, slurred speech, and poor balance. He reportedly refused a post-arrest breath test.

Habitual public intoxication is an aggravated misdemeanor; disorderly conduct is a simple misdemeanor.
