DeWitt man charged with child endangerment

Iowa City police arrested a DeWitt, Iowa, man after he allegedly assaulted a woman in front of their daughter.

Michael Steven Tomek, 41, 1549 Silver Valley Drive, was charged Oct. 25 with domestic-abuse assault without intent causing injury and child endangerment.

According to a complaint, Tomek was involved in a verbal argument with a woman when he found out she was using her cell phone to record names he was calling her.

Tomek then allegedly took the cell phone from her and tried to erase the recording. When the woman tried to retrieve her phone, Tomek allegedly grabbed her face, causing lacerations and a bloody nose.

The complaint said the woman then bit Tomek’s hand in order to get him to let go, causing him to throw the phone to the ground and leave the scene.

The alleged victim was holding their 3-year-old daughter during the alleged incident, complaints said.
