Man charged after downtown fight

Iowa City police charged a local man after he allegedly punched another man on the Pedestrian Mall.

Patrick Horras, 21, 1302 E. College St., was charged Oct. 21 with assault causing bodily injury.

According to a complaint, police were conducting foot patrol on the Ped Mall when they heard a verbal argument at 100 E. College St.

The report said officers then saw Horras punch a man, causing him to fall into the raised plant area of the Pedestrian Mall.

Horras was allegedly sweating and had blood on his hands when officers approached him. The complaint said he told police he was defending himself from the other man.

According to the complaint, witnesses told police Horras approached a female and made a comment, and when he was approached by her friends, he punched the man in the mouth.

The complaint also said Horras was intoxicated at the time of the incident.
