UI receives approval for $7M MRI scanner

The state Board of Regents Tuesday unanimously approved the University of Iowa’s request to purchase a new $7 million magnetic resonance imaging scanner.

The scanner will be located in the new Pappajohn Biomedical Discovery Building, which is under construction, and will enhance several of the UI’s clusters, including aging, obesity, and genetics, according to the request.

The scanner will be integrated into the Iowa Institute for Biomedical Imaging, the UI’s Clinical and Translation Science Award, and the National Cancer Institute funded cancer center.
