Iowa man fails to register address

Johnson County deputies charged an Iowa man after he allegedly failed to register his address as a sex-offender.

Duane McBroom, 60, Oxford, Iowa, was charged Monday with sex-offender-registration violation.

He allegedly failed to register his change of address with Johnson County officials, an act required by law of convicted sex offenders.

Failure by convicted sex offenders to report a change of address within 45 business days is an aggravated misdemeanor under state law.

According to a complaint from the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, McBroom had been seen staying at 220 W. Main St. in Oxford, though he was registered to 1813 Lower Old Highway 6 Lot 70 in Oxford.

After checking with the Johnson County Civil Division, officials discovered that McBroom had been evicted from his Lower Old Highway address in July.

He was then charged with sex-offender-registration violation, a serious misdemeanor punishable by one year in prison.
