Iowa City police arrested an Illinois man after he allegedly instigated a fight outside a downtown bar and with officers.

James Cronin, 19, Orland Park, Ill., was charged Sunday with interfering with official acts, intoxication, obstructing officers, disorderly conduct, and possession/use of an authentic driver’s license/ID of another.

According to complaints, officers were called to the Field House bar Sept. 10 at approximately 11:57 p.m. after receiving reports of a problem. Upon arrival, officers learned an argument inside the bar involving four people had become physical outside.

Cronin reportedly told police he was assaulted outside Field House before he refused a preliminary breath test, to have photos taken of his injuries, and walking away from the scene.

Other parties allegedly involved in the incident told police Cronin had instigated a fight at another bar earlier in the night because he thought they were looking at a girl he was with.

After his arrest, complaints said Cronin began slamming his head on the bars over the back door window of the police car, responding to police with profanity when asked to stop.

When an officer tried to physically remove Cronin from the car, he allegedly refused to sit on the ground before pushing and pulling officers as they brought him into the jail.
