UI will host reception for Butler

A reception will officially welcome P. Barry Butler in his new role as the University of Iowa’s provost and executive vice president, said UI President Sally Mason in a press release. The event will take place from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. today in the Levitt Center rotunda.

Prior to his appointment as provost, Butler served as the dean of the College of Engineering and then as interim provost. He has been a professor of mechanical and industrial engineering at the UI since 1984.

Butler’s new salary is $375,000 a year, a raise of $25,000 from the interim-provost position.
