Man violates no-contact order after release

An Iowa City man immediately violated his no-contact order after being released from jail last week.

Michael James Shrock, 33, 4487 490th St., was charged Aug. 18 with second-degree theft.

According to a complaint from the Iowa City police department, Shrock showed up at the alleged victim’s apartment with which he had a no contact order with. Police said the alleged victim’s friend answered the door, and Shrock walked into the apartment after being told not to.

Shrock allegedly stole the alleged victim’s Samsung laptop and digital camera — which total $1,200 — and left the apartment.

Police said Shrock was released from jail the day before for previous charges.

Second-degree theft is a class D felony, punishable by up to five years in prison and a maximum fine of $7,500.
