Local man charged after break-in

Iowa City police arrested an Iowa City man after he allegedly broke three windows of a home.

James Albee, 20, 902 N. Dodge St. Apt. 6B, was charged Sunday with fourth-degree criminal mischief and public intoxication.

The complaint said officers responded to a report of someone breaking windows of a house just after 2 a.m. Sunday morning. When police arrived on the scene, the complaint said the alleged victims were holding down the suspect.

Witnesses and the alleged victims told police they heard three windows broken at their home on the 700 block of East Jefferson Street before they ran outside and saw Albee standing there, the complaint said.

When a witness asked Albee if he broke the window, he allegedly replied, “Maybe, yes. What are you going to do about it?” the complaint said.

He then reportedly tried to run and the alleged victims tackled and held him down until police arrived. Albee told officers he did not recollect attacking a window and that he did not intend to break a window. The value of the windows are estimated at $400.
