The Iowa women’s swimming and diving team was named a College Swimming Coaches Association of America Scholar All-American Team. Eighty-nine women’s Division-I teams received the honor.
The award is given to a team with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better. The team must maintain the GPA throughout the fall semester in addition to the semester of the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships. Iowa’s grade point average was 3.14.
Five other Big Ten teams received the honor. Northwestern had the highest Big Ten GPA at 3.6. It was the second behind Gardner-Webb University (3.63) on the overall list.
“It goes to show that we are not only exceptional athletes, we are exceptional students as well,” junior Daniela Cubelic said. “Our hard work both in an out of the pool reflects the type of people we are. It’s nice to have our accomplishments recognized.”
