Area man faces 4 charges

Police arrested a Riverside man earlier this month after allegedly finding a variety of drugs and weapons in his vehicle.

Ronald Weiland, 18, Riverside, was charged Feb. 2 with possession of marijuana, possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, and carrying a toy gun.

According to police, officers stopped Weiland’s vehicle on Oct. 3 for a traffic violation. Shortly after the stop, the report said a drug-detection dog notified officers of the presence of drugs in the car.

When searching the vehicle, officers reportedly found marijuana, methamphetamine, a BB gun, brass knuckles, a knife, and a glass marijuana pipe, according to the complaint.

Police also found approximately $3,300 cash, the report said.

Possession of a controlled substance is a serious misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in prison and a maximum fine of $1,875.

Possession of drug paraphernalia is a simple misdemeanor punishable by up to 30 days in jail and a maximum fine of $625.

Carrying a toy gun is a violation of Iowa City code.
