Minor allegedly sets fire inside West High

A 15- year-old Iowa City student allegedly started a fire in the mens bathroom of his high school.

Christopher J. Spurgeon, 15, was charged Tuesday with first degree arson.

According to a police report, the Iowa City Fire Department responded to a report of a fire in a mens bathroom at West High School.

Afer arriving on the scene, school staff told officials the fire had been put out using a fire extinguisher, according to the report.

The report said the fire was contained to a plastic toilet paper holder and its contents.

First degree arson is a class B felony, punishable by a maximum of 25 years in prison.
