D. Bess and Heatbox play Yacht Club today

One-man-bands in their own right, D. Bess and Heatbox return Iowa City for a show at the Yacht Club, 13 S. Linn St., at 9 p.m. today. Admission is $10.

Both Heatbox and D. Bess perform as solo artists, using digital loops that they create on the spot during the performance. Heatbox uses only his voice to create beats and rhythms that dip into genres of funk, soul, R&B, and hip-hop.

His unique style and distinct performances have earned him nationwide attention.

D. Bess (of Iowa City’s Public Property) is just as entertaining and uses a similar technique to Heatbox. D. Bess uses percussion, guitar, bass, as well as vocals to create a sound that covers genres in blues, reggae, funk, folk, and hip-hop.

Both artists have ties to the Iowa City music scene and have played at local venues numerous times.
