Police investigate strong-arm robbery

Iowa City police are investigating an incident after a man reported someone stole his iPod as he was walking.

According to police, officers responded to the 500 block of South Van Buren Street on Nov. 26. after a report of a strong arm robbery.

The adult male victim said he was walking in the 500 block of Bowery Street when the alleged assailant — described as a black male in his early 20s — approached the victim to ask if he had a light. The suspect reportedly began walking along with the victim after the victim said he did not.

According to police, the suspect reached into the victim’s pocket to take his iPod. A minor struggle ensued during which the victim was assaulted, though his injuries were not serious enough to require medical attention, police reports show.

The suspect ran away with the victim’s property, police said.

Police listed the suspect as roughly 5-10 and wearing a dark-colored hooded sweatshirt.
