UI prof’s retrial delayed

The retrial for a University of Iowa assistant professor’s alleged third-degree sexual-abuse charge has been delayed.

Toshiki Itoh was found guilty Oct. 26 on two counts of assault with intent to cause bodily injury, stemming from incidents in which he injured his then-research assistant.

The jury could not reach a unanimous verdict on the sexual-abuse charge.

Itoh’s retrial was originally scheduled for Dec. 15.

The prosecution initially resisted the defense’s motion to continue but agreed upon a date Nov. 12.

Itoh’s trial has been rescheduled for Feb. 7, 2011.
