A high-school student has been accused of selling stolen bus passes.

Douglas Littleton, 19, 2240 Taylor Drive, was charged Nov. 11 with second-degree theft.

According to police, Iowa city officers responded to Tate High at 11:30 a.m. when school officials got a hold of an allegedly stolen bus pass after it was bought from Littleton. Police reported Littleton admitted he had the bus passes but had "given them away." Littleton reportedly had 20 passes in his pocket when questioned, including one he had allegedly used.

Officers said the passes — valued at more than $2,000 — matched the serial numbers in the range reported stolen by the Hy-Vee on Waterfront Drive where Littleton was an employee. Littleton reportedly said he bought the passes from "a guy" for $50 but said he knew they were likely stolen.

Police said the last day Littleton worked at Hy-Vee was the day the passes went missing.

Second-degree theft is a Class D felony punishable by up to five years in prison and a maximum fine of $7,500.
