Emergency-communications head charged with OWI

Coralville police have arrested the executive director of the Johnson County Emergency Communication Center for allegedly driving drunk.

Michael Sullivan, 52, Coralville, was charged April 22 with OWI.

According to police reports, officers saw someone driving erratically, hitting a mailbox, and continuing to his residence.

When police made contact with Sullivan at his home, he said he’d been drinking too much and had just arrived home. Sullivan said he hadn’t had anything to drink after getting home and hadn’t noticed he hit the mailbox. He failed numerous breath tests.

This is Sullivan’s first OWI charge; it is punishable by up to one year in jail and a maximum fine of $1,250.
