Area man charged with meth possession

Iowa City police arrested a North English, Iowa, man after an officer allegedly found methamphetamine in his truck, authorities said.

James Gale, 50, was charged March 27 with possession of a controlled substance.

According to police reports, an officer stopped Gale for having a headlight out. He was reportedly shaking and appeared nervous. He consented to a search of himself and his vehicle, police said.

Officers said they located a clear plastic bag containing a white substance in an inside pocket of Gale’s coat. He reportedly admitted the substance was methamphetamine and field tests confirmed this, authorities said.

Possession of a controlled substance is a serious misdemeanor, punishable by up to one year in jail and a maximum fine of up to $1,875.
