2 charged with vehicular tampering

Iowa City police arrested an Iowa City man and a minor for allegedly attempting to break into several cars.

Victor Curry, 18, 2920 Muscatine Ave., was charged Sunday with tampering with motor vehicles and interference with official acts. A 16-year-old was also charged with the same crimes.

According to police reports, officers responded to the 600 block of Westgate Street after receiving a complaint of individuals breaking into vehicles. Officers had a general description of the suspects.

Upon arrival, officers saw four men flee in different directions, police said.

Two of the males were arrested, and a witness identified both as the men attempting to open car doors in a parking lot, authorities said.

Tampering with motor vehicles and interference with official acts are both simple misdemeanors, generally punishable by up to 30 days in jail and a maximum fine of $625.
