Aquahawks sign eight

The Iowa women’s swimming and diving team announced its 2010 recruiting class on Tuesday.

Eight swimmers and one diver signed national letters of intent to swim with the AquaHawks starting in fall of next year. The recruits hail from five different states and Canada.

The group includes Katelyn Baltes, Elise Borja, and Abbey Tuchscherer from Wisconsin, Emily Christiansen from Arizona, Lauren Drennan and Karolina Wartalowicz from Illinois, Haley Gordon from South Dakota, Emily Hovren from Indiana, and Lauren Kelba from Canada.

Christiansen and Wartalowicz earned All-American honors twice during their high-school careers.

Gordon joins her brother, Paul Gordon, as a member of the Iowa swimming program.

Kelba, the lone diver in the recruiting class, represented Canada in numerous junior national diving meets.
