Man charged with sexual abuse

Iowa City police arrested an Arkansas man for allegedly abusing a girl for several years.

Travis Porter, 42, Norfork, Ark., was charged with second-degree sexual abuse.

According to reports, Porter abused the girl when she was 6 or 8 years old until she was 12. Reports said Porter would place his hands down her pants and touch her vaginal area with his fingers.

When the girl tried to resist on one occasion, Porter allegedly grabbed her by the throat and forced her to lie down, police said. Porter also allegedly made threats to the girl about harming her or her family if she told what he was doing.

Porter is in custody at the Johnson County Jail on a $15,000 cash-only bond.

Second-degree sexual abuse is a Class C felony and is generally punishable by 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.
